This morning we will complete all of the harvesting from our Union Gap estate vineyard in Yakima. The Cabernet Sauvignon is exceptional and full-flavored, coming off the vines a month earlier than average. The harvest has actually been fairly smooth. At the start of September, Mother Nature greeted us with much cooler temperatures, which slowed ripening just enough to space harvesting out and get the crew rested for Labor Day. This came as a high contrast to the hottest summer on record.
We will be finished (even with the fruit earmarked for dessert wine) by the end of September. Another growing season for the record books.
Expect great things from ’15 – there’s plenty of rich flavors and personality in the wines thus far.
